If you’re in the market for a good community service project, contact your local Jewish Social Services Agency.  Most have a variety of projects to fit the bill, including Meals-on-Wheels, visiting and helping the elderly and shut-ins, and holiday food deliveries.

One element of attracting new members is demonstrating that the Men’s Club has a variety of programs to meet most congregational interests, and the easiest way to show this is regular description of your activities in the synagogue newsletter.

Make certain that your club has a regular notification process in place to communicate time-sensitive information, such as funeral and Shiva information of a club stalwart or last-minute program changes. Mere e-mails are not always enough; you will also need some targeted telephone calls.

If your club orders fewer than 25 cases of yellow candles – and most clubs fall into this category – you will save money if you can join with other nearby clubs to combine your orders with a single “drop” delivery site.  Now is the time to seek out other clubs, and your regional leadership can help..
