We arranged with Ariel University in Israel to have Professor Donation Adler come to our synagogue for the World Wide Wrap weekend. Dr Adler is a world renowned archaeologist, and one of his projects is the Tefillin found among the Dead Sea Scrolls.
Dr Adler spoke on Friday night about Israeli Archeology between Mincha and Ma'arive, on Shabbat morning before Torah reading in both the hashkama (early) and regular services, on Friday night about the the stone quarry in Nazereth Ilit and on Sunday morning at our Wrap breakfast about the Dead Sea Tefillin.
Friday evening, Dr Adler spoke generally about the Origins of Halacha at the Archeology programme at Ariel where he teaches. Ariel University's Samaria and the Jordan Rift Regional R&D Center highlights exploration of the Origins of Halacha. Dr Adler is also a rabbi, and is uniquely qualified to conduct this research.
Saturday morning, Dr Adler continued to talk about the Origins of Halacha, and tied it into the Torah reading, Mishpatim.
Saturday evening, Dr Adler spoke to the shul's Young Professionals about the soft stone quarry from late second temple times where stone dishes, plates and pots where both quarried and manufactured. He brought a sample of the stone that had cut marks from the original quarrying and talked about the location as being important to both Jews and Christians. https://youtu.be/bB59Byju_5c
Sunday morning, Wrap day, Dr Adler presented images and information showing that the tefillin we use today were not much different from those found among the Dead Sea scrolls. Dr Adler also talked about the fact that Tefillin seem to have been first talked about and seen in late second temple times. After his presentation, he took questions about his work and the university.

Self Assessment
Excellent programme! Our Men's Club event of a Sunday World Wide Wrap was expanded out to include not only the Men's Club but the Young Professionals and the rest of the synagogue. Through cooperation with the other arms, we all succeeded and offered an incredible programme that touched on history, halacha and ritual practice.
The synagogue community was excited to see the Brotherhood bring in such dynamic speaker who was able to speak to them about important issues in the Origins of Halacha.
Contacting universities for speakers is a great way to get high quality experts. We were lucky that Nicole Greenspan is the English Public Relations Director at Ariel and that she was able to have Dr Adler come at no cost to us while on a tour of North America.
