What started as a simple concept of offering webinars while our members were stuck at home has morphed into a phenomenally successful series of regularly scheduled virtual events. As of this writing, four very successful groups have been established: Cooking, Yiddish, Genealogy and Sports. I will elaborate on the latter:
At the onset of this initiative in March, David Kravitz and yours truly decided to take charge of these events. Initially, we made the decision to focus on baseball. We were fortunate enough to have a baseball card historian, a former all-star player and manager, a top baseball executive, among others who could speak to us about America’s Favorite Pastime. As the seasons changed, we realized that our offerings should be expanded. Since then, we have featured sports leaders from the football and wrestling arenas and are looking forward to offering an ice hockey webinar in December. Our goal is to seek out speakers focused on basketball and other sports as well. If you know anyone who you think would be of interest, please let us know.
If you have not joined us for one of the sports webinars, you are missing out! Don’t worry though as they are being uploaded onto the FJMC YouTube page. As for our next events, please refer to the FJMC Webinar schedule on fjmc.org under Publications as well as in the weekly FJMC emails that are sent to you. We hope you sign up for our future exciting events. Looking forward to virtually seeing you soon.
Danny Mandeau is the current Chairman of the FJMC 2021 International Convention.
